Chicken gyros is a traditional greek meal. I first tried this in the restaurant Halloumi in Glasgow and it tasted amazing. When looking at the ingredients I thought this was something that would be easy enough to try at home - and it was! This is one of my favourite dinners as it is so simple but tastes so good.
Ingredients you will need for this meal are:
- Boneless chicken thighs
- Pittas
- Chips
- Greek yogurt
- Lemon juice
- Paprika seasoning
- Garlic
- Tomato
- Cucumber
- Red onion
- Tsatziki
- Salt and pepper
With this kind of meal, you can add anything you like to your pitta. Listed above are the usual ingredients but feel free to add or take out any ingredients that suit you.
Note: I buy all my ingredients from Aldi (a cheap supermarket which is great for students).
Cooking instructions:
Start by marinating your boneless chicken thighs. I marinate the chicken with greek yogurt, lemon juice, paprika seasoning, crushed garlic, salt and pepper. I leave the chicken to marinate in the chicken for about two hours (can be longer). When you are ready to start cooking, put the thighs in the oven at one hundred and eighty degrees for around twenty five minutes. Ince this has been on for ten minutes, put your chips in the oven or air fryer to cook. While this is all cooking, prepare your pitta breads by toasting them slightly then adding chopped tomatoes, cucumber and red onion. When everything is cooked, fill the rest of your pitta with the chicken and chips. Finish with tsatziki (I buy mine pre-made but this is also easy to make yourself) and you are ready to eat!
